Getting Started with Lokko's 3D Editor

🧱 Ready to go 3D? Once you've got the hang of the 2D Editor, the 3D Editor is the natural next step — same free, browser-based building, with a whole extra dimension to play with.

What's Different in 3D

  • Camera control — orbit, pan, and zoom around your level as you build.
  • Vertical design — stack platforms, towers, and drops that 2D can't do.
  • Depth-based challenges — hide paths behind or beneath the obvious route.

The Basics

Placing Geometry

  • Left-click to place a block on the grid.
  • Right-click to remove.
  • Drag to rotate your view and see your level from any angle.

Lighting & Mood

Small lighting tweaks go a long way — a dim corridor before a bright open area makes the reveal land harder.

Which One Should You Start With?

The 2D and 3D editors aren't really competing tools — they're teaching different skills. The 2D Editor forces you to think in a single plane, so the hard part is pacing: how far apart to space hazards, jumps, and rest points along one line of travel. The 3D Editor keeps that same pacing challenge but adds camera and depth on top of it, such as a hazard that reads clearly from one angle but is hidden from another. That's why most creators find it easier to learn platform spacing and hazard timing in 2D first, then bring those instincts into 3D once camera control stops feeling like the hard part.

Tips for 3D Level Design

  • Guide the eye. Use lighting and geometry to point players toward the next objective.
  • Test your camera angles. What looks great from one angle can be confusing from the player's actual viewpoint.
  • Don't overbuild. A focused 3D space beats a sprawling one nobody can navigate.
